Counselling for Coping with Redundancy or the Threat of Losing Your Job
Dealing with having been made redundant or trying to cope with the threat of redundancy is distressing and can feel isolating. So much of our confidence and self-esteem is tied up with our career and the fear or actuality of losing our job can create anxiety, panic and stress. Trying to manage the fear of redundancy in this financial crisis can be overwhelming. The financial situation has created shock and fear. Clients report that they are experiencing insomnia, panic attacks, anger and depression.
Counselling for redundancy, to prepare for possible redundancy or to manage the feelings and physical symptoms that come about when we feel overwhelmed, can be a very positive support structure to create for yourself. Many people feel alone with their worries and fears, believing that they shouldn’t show how they feel to their colleagues or families. Suppressing these feelings transforms them into symptoms.
Symptoms are our body’s way of letting us know that we need to address something. We can choose to ignore the signs but I have never known them to go away because when ignored –in fact the opposite is true, they tend to intensify.
